The 65thth ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) took place on Sunday, July 7, in Abuja, Nigeria, under the chairmanship of Nigerian Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During this meeting, the conference looked at several issues including the progress of the transition in Guinea.

In its final communiqué, the conference welcomed the progress made by the Guinean transition authorities.

“With regard to the transition process in Guinea, the Authority welcomes the relative progress made, including the planned holding of a constitutional referendum in 2024. It welcomes the ongoing interactions between the Commission and the transitional authorities and commends the Guinean authorities for reaffirming their unwavering membership in the ECOWAS Community. The Authority requests the Commission to dispatch a technical mission to deepen collaboration with Guinea in the context of the transition,” the final communiqué of the conference states.

Furthermore, the conference invites the transitional authorities to favor an inclusive inter-Guinean dialogue.

“She urges the Transitional Authorities to give priority to facilitating an inclusive inter-Guinean dialogue involving all political actors in order to ensure a consensual and peaceful transition process,” the press release underlines.
