President Gustavo Petro met this Monday at the Casa de Nariño with leaders of the Comunes party to evaluate compliance with the 2016 Peace Agreement.
The meeting aimed to prepare the report that the Colombian government will present to the UN Security Council.
In his statements, President Petro highlighted the importance of this meeting: “The two high contracting parties of the 2016 Peace Agreement met again: the State and the FARC, this time at the Nariño Palace. We prepared a report to the United Nations Security Council on the implementation of the Agreement.”
During the working session, the progress achieved and the changes necessary for the effective implementation of the Peace Agreement were discussed. The President stressed the need for these adjustments to reach a national consensus: “The changes must be discussed by the people to reach a National Agreement, as stated in the unilateral declaration of State, which is binding and commits us to humanity.”

The meeting was attended by the designated Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo; the Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo; the High Commissioner for Peace, Otty Patiño; and the Colombian ambassador to the United States, Daniel García-Peña. Representing the Comunes party were Rodrigo Londoño, Rodrigo Granda, Jaime Alberto Parra, Julián Gallo, Pablo Catatumbo and Pastor Alape.
This meeting was held in response to an invitation made by President Petro during an event in Bogotá on June 19, where he convened the leaders of the extinct FARC to evaluate the current state of the Peace Agreement. The final objective is to present a joint declaration to the UN Security Council, reflecting the achievements and challenges in the implementation of the historic agreement.
