Today Saturday is International Cooperative Day. International Cooperative Day is today. The day is observed on the first Saturday of July every year. As such, the day is being celebrated today.
On the occasion of the day, various programs including special discussions have been organized at the cooperative building located in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Shariful Islam said, on the occasion of the day, initiatives have been taken to make people of different classes and professions of the country more self-reliant through cooperatives. On this occasion, a special discussion program has been organized in the cooperative building. Minister of State for Rural Development and Cooperative Md. Abdul Wadud MP along with various levels of officials of the Directorate of Cooperatives will be present.
He further said that the concept of cooperative organization is universally accepted. Cooperatives are a powerful means of economic development. Internationally also the principles of cooperatives include unity, equality, cooperation, honesty, trust, faith, service and democracy. Directorate of Cooperatives is working relentlessly with the aim of building sustainable cooperatives in the country through specific action plans.
According to sources of Cooperative Directorate, 8 lakh 26 thousand 728 people have been directly and indirectly employed in the country through cooperatives. 1 crore 6 lakh 90 thousand 728 people have been made members through 57 thousand 145 cooperative organizations. Economic development of people continues by forming cooperative societies at marginal level of the country. Apart from this, the members of the association are contributing to the development of the society in various ways. At the same time, he is conducting various developmental activities.
