Berlin: (www.kvartha.com 23.02.2022) Germany suspends Russian gas pipeline project as Ukraine crisis continues. Germany suspends controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline project after recognizing two pro – Russian provinces in eastern Ukraine as independent republics.

The 10 10 billion project has been put on hold. The White House praised Germany’s decision amid tensions. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said the current situation was politically and practically correct.

As the Ukraine crisis continues, a number of countries have come out against Russia. The U.S. had warned that it would not see the gas pipeline if it attacked Ukraine. However, Germany went ahead with the project despite opposition from the United States and European countries.

However, Germany was preparing to suspend the project following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognize separatists in eastern Ukraine. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline project was launched to double the capacity to import natural gas from Russia.
