(ANSA) – MOSCOW, JULY 9 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that India is “ready” to “provide any help” for peace in Ukraine: the Russian news agency Interfax reported. “The solution cannot be through war. Bombs, missiles and guns cannot guarantee peace, so we emphasize dialogue, and dialogue is necessary,” Modi told Putin, whose troops have invaded Ukraine. The Indian prime minister called the Russian president “his friend”. Putin thanked the Indian prime minister for “trying to find ways to resolve” the war in Ukraine, “of course, first of all, peacefully”, as reported by Tass. “Today our relations have the character of a particularly privileged strategic partnership,” he said, addressing Modi at the beginning of their talks in the Kremlin. “I am pleased that India and Russia are working hand in hand to give new impetus to global prosperity. All of you here are taking India-Russia relations to new heights,” Modi was quoted by Tass as saying, meeting the Indian community in Moscow. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his disappointment over the Indian prime minister’s visit to the Russian president: “It is a great disappointment and a blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world’s largest democracy embracing the world’s bloodiest criminal in Moscow,” Zelensky wrote on X.
