The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held an emergency meeting to minimize damage from heavy rain. Following the issuance of heavy rain advisories for seven cities and counties (Jeongeup, Wanju, Jinan, Muju, Jangsu, Imsil, and Buan) and preliminary special advisories for three cities and counties (Namwon, Sunchang, and Gochang), the province began thorough inspections to protect the lives and properties of its residents.

At 8:30 AM on the 9th, Jeonbuk Autonomous Province held an emergency video conference at the Natural Disaster Management Center, chaired by Vice Governor Choi Byeong-gwan, to check on rainfall and weather conditions with relevant provincial departments and cities and counties, and instructed, “Be alert to minimize damage caused by rain and do your best in disaster prevention work.”

Deputy Governor Choi said, “There has been a lot of accumulated rainfall, and to prevent damage from additional rainfall, strengthen surveillance in areas at risk of landslides, steep slopes, low-lying areas at risk of flooding, underground passageways, and semi-basement housing,” and ordered, “Please do your utmost to ensure safety management, such as by cooperating with relevant organizations such as police stations and fire departments in case of hazardous weather.”

In particular, he instructed, “In order to prevent secondary damage from heavy rain, conduct preemptive inspections of risk areas, promptly send disaster text messages to residents living in areas at risk of casualties, and conduct intensive publicity campaigns to urge residents in areas affected by the management of rice paddy dams and the opening and closing of sluice gates to refrain from going outside.”

Deputy Governor Choi continued, “Until the end of the summer monsoon season, we aim to achieve zero casualties. Please work diligently with a sense of mission that the safety of the citizens is your responsibility.”

Meanwhile, from the 8th to the 9th, there was an average of 47mm of rain in the province, with Jangsu recording the highest rainfall of 79.9mm, followed by Imsil with 76.5mm, Gunsan with 71mm, Jeongeup with 57.1mm, Iksan with 51.4mm, Jinan with 50mm, Gochang with 47.6mm, and Wanju with 46.8mm.
