President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Kun-hee arrived in Hawaii.
On the 8th (local time), President Yoon and his wife arrived at Hickam Air Force Base in the United States to visit the Indo-Pacific Command ahead of attending the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit. They got off Air Force One and greeted Hawaiian Governor Josh Green and his wife who came out to welcome them. Governor Green and his wife presented President Yoon and his wife with a traditional Hawaiian welcome flower lei. Afterwards, President Yoon and his wife boarded the vehicle while being welcomed by U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force soldiers.
From the US side, Hawaii Governor Josh Green and his wife, US Indo-Pacific Commander Samuel Paparo and his wife, US Ambassador to Korea Goldberg, and US Forces Korea Commander LaCamera were in attendance. From our side, Ambassador to the US Cho Hyun-dong, Consul General in Honolulu Lee Seo-young and his wife, and the president of the Hawaii Korean Association were in attendance.
President Yoon and his wife will visit the National Cemetery of the Pacific on this day to pay their respects and have a dinner meeting with fellow Koreans. On the 9th, they will visit the US Indo-Pacific Command, the largest of the US regional unified combat commands, to hear about the military and security situation and encourage the soldiers. After that, President Yoon will finish his 2-day and 1-night schedule in Hawaii and head to Washington DC to attend the NATO summit.
