The High National Elections Commission reported that the number of registered voters in the municipal council elections reached 157,000.

The Electoral Commission announced the extension of the voter registration period until July 16, with the aim of registering the largest number of voters.

This is the second and final extension, which comes in the wake of the increasing demand for registration by citizens of municipal councils, according to the Commission.

The Commission explained that this extension will provide an opportunity for those who faced some difficulties in the process of entering their names and data in the voter registry.

The National Elections Commission reiterated the importance of participation in the electoral process to ensure credibility, achieve greater transparency in choosing who will manage the municipality’s affairs, and achieve their demands.

The Electoral Commission called on all governmental institutions, civil society organizations and media channels to support its efforts aimed at enhancing the concept of participation by motivating citizens to engage in the electoral process as voters, candidates or observers.

Two weeks ago, the Commission announced an extension of the voter registration period for municipal council elections for 14 days.
