The Secretary of Public Administration of the Presidency, Arturo Félix Wong, has expressed harsh criticism of the recent decisions of the Constitutional Court (CC) that have annulled several presidential decrees aimed at improving security in the country.
In an interview with a Guayaquil media outlet, Félix Wong expressed his dissatisfaction with the CC results, despite his respect for the institution.“I trust the Constitutional Court, but I don’t trust the results it has given,” The secretary explained that his distrust stems from the annulment of presidential decrees crucial to public security, especially in regions affected by the armed conflict.
Félix Wong was blunt in pointing out that the decisions of the CC seem to be disconnected from the reality faced by many regions of the country. “They are in a beautiful building in Quito, they do not have an armed conflict, but we who are on the streets in Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas, we do see what the reality is,” he said. The secretary emphasized the need for the magistrates to better understand the difficulties suffered by Ecuadorians outside the capital.
In addition, Félix Wong invited the CC magistrates to leave their comfort zone and experience first-hand the conditions of insecurity in other provinces. “I invite them to go out without security and come to Los Ríos for a meeting, or to come to Manabí to meet with us as we do every Monday. But they cannot leave Quito for prestige,” he said.
The Secretary concluded the interview by stressing the urgency of adopting effective measures to guarantee the security of citizens and the importance of judicial decisions reflecting the reality of the country as a whole.
