The Paris prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the leader of the National Rally parliamentary faction, Marine Le Pen, on suspicion of violating campaign financing rules for the 2022 election campaign.

As reported by Day.Az, this was reported by the BFMTV channel, citing sources.

The reason was an appeal by the National Commission on Campaign Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP), which checks the legality of reimbursement of funds for candidates’ expenses during elections. It is noted that this body often reports violations to the prosecutor’s office and has filed several complaints there regarding several candidates in the 2022 presidential elections. However, only Le Pen has been investigated.

According to the TV channel, this is a problem with the “sources of campaign funding”. At the same time, in 2023, the CNCCFP and the candidate from the “National Rally” only had a dispute over €300,000 spent by the party on renting advertising space on 12 buses during the election campaign. Le Pen tried to challenge the exclusion of this amount from the list of reimbursable expenses by contacting the Constitutional Council, but the results of the consideration of this complaint have not yet been reported.
