/ The Iraqi tennis team delegation for age groups left today, Tuesday, to participate in the Davis Cup International Championship “Boys – Girls”, which will be held in Sri Lanka this month, with the participation of 23 countries.
The head of the Iraqi Tennis Federation, Saif Al-Aqili, told Agency, “Four categories will represent Iraqi tennis in the upcoming international championship for both genders,” stressing that “our male and female players are fully prepared before the start of the championship, especially after the intensive training that was held for them in preparation for the upcoming international championship.”
Al-Aqili added, “The delegations were sent before the start of the tournament to stay in a training camp on the stadiums that will host the tournament in Sri Lanka, in order for them to get used to and acclimatize to the dirt before the start of the competitions.”
He explained that the 14-year-old competitions (boys and girls) will be held from February 12 to 18, and that this category left today as a first batch to hold a short training camp there before the start of the championship, while the 16-year-old competitions (boys and girls) were set to be held from February 18 to 25, and they will be there to hold a training camp that will last for five days before the start of the championship.
He explained that the Federation has named its coaches to lead the players of the Iraqi national team during the upcoming international event, indicating that coach Ali Khairi will lead the “boys” team for the 14-year-old category, while coach Barakat Zini will lead the “girls” team for the 14-year-old category, while coach Alan Zaki will lead the “boys” team for the 16-year-old category, while coach Ahmed Mustafa was assigned to train the 16-year-old “girls” team.
Al-Aqili pointed out that the Iraqi Federation for the game decided to have a physical fitness trainer present within the delegation to accompany the national team after it saw his presence as necessary to prepare the male and female players, explaining that the step of sending a fitness trainer with the national team is the first in the participation of our national teams in foreign tournaments.
