With a global and complementary vision, the Tit Mellil reference center stands out for its approach. In addition to the medicinal route, the structure focuses on the psychological balance, socialization and empowerment of its patients, known as users.

With this in mind, the center provides therapeutic and medical care as well as socio-educational rehabilitation support that promotes the development of patients’ relational skills and the acquisition of professional skills.

Inaugurated by HM King Mohammed VI on May 27, 2018, the center is the result of a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Ministry of Health, the National Initiative for Human Development, the Regional Council of Casablanca-Settat, and the Prefectural Council, said Leila Bouhali, executive at the Social Action Division in the province of Mediouna, noting that management is provided by the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection in collaboration with the Moroccan Association for the Support, Link, and Initiation of Families of People Suffering from Mental Disorders (AMALI).

The category of beneficiaries falls within the framework of the people targeted by the support program for people in precarious situations of the 3rd phase of the INDH, which constitutes a main lever of the health sector of the province, continues the manager, adding that the INDH has contributed to the financing of several projects to support the socio-economic integration of users by procuring the necessary equipment.

Having benefited 91 people so far, the INDH has mobilized an envelope of 450,000 dirhams, in particular to create and equip certain workshops, considered as key relays of the center’s approach.

It is, in fact, thanks to these therapeutic activities that the CMPS ensures the supervision, evaluation and psychological monitoring of its users.

“Through the workshops, we address the major challenges faced by anyone suffering from mental disorders, including isolation and stigmatization,” chief physician Abdesamad Nasih explained to MAP, noting that this socio-educational tool is intended to be a mediator through which psychologists transmit the expected messages.

Accepting the illness, overcoming society’s stereotypes and regaining self-esteem… This is the general framework of the activities, he notes, emphasizing that these activities offered in parallel with the medical sessions have produced “extremely positive palpable” results.

Built on a plot of 2,851 m2, the premises are, moreover, adapted. Divided into two zones, the CMPS includes consultation rooms for general medicine, psychiatry, psychology, and a pharmacy, as well as hairdressing-beauty, plastic arts and cooking rooms, physical education, computer and training rooms, all surrounded by a therapeutic garden.

Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses and social workers… a specialized team is mobilized to meet the needs of users and achieve the objectives set. These include reducing symptomatic behaviors, cognitive stimulation, improving social skills and learning to better manage stress and anxiety. In a word, preparation for active life.

“The unique approach of the CMPS of Tit Mellil goes beyond the classic therapeutic model, which does not allow us to overcome the stagnation phase,” said the president of the AMALI association, Fouad Mekouar.

The approach followed allows users to communicate with others and with themselves, he emphasizes, noting that group therapy is also very important.

He was keen to stress that the partners are working “tirelessly” for these women in precarious situations. Several of them have been able to integrate into the job market, Mr. Mekouar said, highlighting the remarkable success of the center thanks to the commitment of the various stakeholders, in this case the INDH “which spares no effort.”

A result that is attested to by the various beneficiaries, such as the young woman Hafida whose psycho-social situation has significantly improved. “The center saved me,” she confided to MAP, affirming that “the structure allowed her to lead a normal life despite the illness.”

“Thanks to the various activities offered, I was able to acquire new skills and open up to society again,” she continues, saying she is grateful to the care staff and all the people who ensure the center runs smoothly.

A real springboard towards socio-economic integration, the Tit Mellil centre has everything planned. Pro-family therapy is also offered to close relatives to raise their awareness and equip them with the skills needed to support and assist patients.

In addition, users are introduced to integration at the center itself. Once their condition improves, they contribute to the supervision of the various workshops. This step should also contribute to strengthening accountability, citizenship and the spirit of volunteering, through associative action.

Since its launch by HM King Mohammed VI in 2005, the INDH has continued to pay particular attention to precarious categories, placing them at the heart of its priorities.

This center also stems from the Sovereign’s deep conviction to make the right of access to health services one of the major pillars for the consolidation of citizenship and for the achievement of sustainable, global and integrated human development.
