During this 17th edition, the stage set up in partnership with Société Générale Maroc and now called “Nouveau Souffle”, will give a close look at the groups The Leila, Anass Oublaïd & Raw Rhythm, Folk Spirit, Tarwa N-Tiniri, Saad Tiouly and Snitra, who will perform in free concerts at the Place des Nations-Unies, according to a press release published Thursday by the organizers.
“Since 2014, Jazzablanca has had a deep attachment to the stage located at the Place des Nations-Unies, which is free to enter. Now called “Scène Nouveau Souffle”, it will showcase the originality of emerging artists and musicians, through six groups, selected following the call for applications that the festival launched at the beginning of the year”, explained the same source.
And to add: Jazzablanca thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting an accessible culture and signs a new partnership with Société Générale Maroc. This new collaboration demonstrates the common commitment to promoting national talents.
The artists who will perform on this stage “revisit, each in their own way, our rich musical heritage and promise exceptional performances,” the press release notes.
On Thursday, June 6, the evening will be dedicated to Maghreb rock. The Leila will open the show with a harmonious blend of different musical styles inspired by her native region, Oujda, which the singer and musician combines with grace and lightness with her rock and world music influences. She will be followed by the group formed by singer Anass Oublaïd and the rock band Raw Rhythm. Mastering the art of groove and improvisation, Anass Oublaïd & Raw Rhythm offer a blend of jazz, funk and soul, highlighting virtuoso instrumental performances and inspired compositions.
The evening of Friday, June 7 will begin with the 8 musicians of the Folk Spirit group. Singing in Tamazight, this group created in 2019 in Ait Ben Haddou explores Berber music with a contemporary approach and combines traditional instruments and modern rhythms. Subsequently, it is Tarwa N-Tiniri who takes over with a repertoire that transports us to the soundscapes of the desert. The five musicians offer a fusion of traditional Amazigh and North African melodies, woven with blues, jazz, reggae, rock and gnaoua rhythms.
On Saturday, June 8, the Place des Nations-Unies will host the Casablancan Gnaoua artist, Saad Tiouly. Author, composer, performer and craftsman of traditional instruments, he represents a new generation of polymorphic artists, anchored in local influences and bathed in African musical universes. With a remarkable voice, Saad Tiouly offers an intimate repertoire and poetic compositions mixing Gnaoua, folk and rock and Mediterranean influences.
Then, it’s time for the sounds of the eastern region with Snitra. Winner of the Tremplin L’Boulevard 2019 (fusion category), the group presents bold creations, skillfully mixing reggada, gharnati, gnaoua and issawa influences with rock, reggae and jazz, thus embodying an ode to North African musical identity.
