With the tenure of the team led by actor Vishal in the South Indian Actors’ Association ending in October 2018, the tenure has been extended by 6 months with the approval of the executive committee. It was then announced that the election would be held on June 23, 2019.
Accordingly, the Actors Guild election was held on June 23, 2019. In which screen celebrities cast their votes. Votes cast in this election are kept in the safe deposit box of a bank branch in Nungambakkam, Chennai. Meanwhile, a case was filed in the Chennai I Court seeking cancellation of the election.
Chennai High Court Judge Kalyana Sundaram, who heard the case, adjourned the case after ordering the court to file written arguments in the case. Following this, the Government of Tamil Nadu appointed IG Geetha, Assistant Registrar, as the Special Officer to manage the South Indian Actors’ Association.
Following this, actor Vishal filed a case in the Chennai I Court against the appointment of a special officer appointed to the Actors Guild. The Tamil Nadu government has said that executives whose terms have expired will not be able to sue. The case is being re-assigned to another judge, and will continue to be heard for more than two years.
In this situation, the judges of the Chennai High Court have ruled that the elections held in the year 2019 for the South Indian Actors’ Association will go ahead. The court also directed the Election Commission to count the registered votes within 4 weeks and announce the result. The trial judges also ruled that re-election was not necessary.
