Blackzone Smartphone: Although Apple, Samsung and some Chinese companies dominate the Indian smartphone market, some Indian companies have also tried to establish themselves under Indian brand names. Some of them were successful while some had to shut down their business. Kannav Thukral is different from them. He first set up a feature phone manufacturing factory here. Then he started manufacturing smartphones in the same factory. Currently, he is recognized as a successful businessman in the Indian smartphone market. His products are distributed pan India and are also exported to Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Delhi became the workplace
Kannav Thukral is originally from Ludhiana in Punjab. His father had come to Delhi a long time ago for business. He opened a shop to sell spare parts of scooters in Delhi. Kannav was born here. He did his early education from Darbari Lal DAV Model. Then he did his graduation in commerce from Delhi University. Along with this, he also did GNIIT course from NIIT. He also got placement from there. He also got a job as a network engineer in Lucent Technologies. He started working there.
quit job and started business
He worked for three years at Lucent Technologies. Meanwhile, he also helped his father in his spare parts shop. One day, his father suddenly told him to leave his job and get into business full-time. That is what he did. At that time, he had a spare parts shop in Delhi’s Khan Market. Its name was Janta Auto Spares. Spare parts of luxury cars were available in this shop. They were sourced from Dubai, Germany, Japan, etc. In those days, only embassies had luxury cars. Along with this, he also started the work of spare parts for Nokia’s feature phones.
Started trading of mobile phones
At that time, mobile phones were expanding in the country. Seeing this, Kannav started getting shipments from companies like Nokia, Samsung etc. and started selling them in various markets of Delhi. He started enjoying the business of phones. At the same time, some Indian companies started assembling phones here by importing spare parts from China. This inspired Kannav. Then he set up a factory in Kundli, Sonipat district of Haryana, on 1000 square meters of land. He started manufacturing feature phones there under the brand name Kara. These low-cost feature phones started selling well in rural areas and small towns.
Jumped into manufacturing of smartphones
Encouraged by the success of feature phones, Kannav started making smartphones in 2016. He named this phone Blackzone. It was sold everywhere in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Northeast states, South Indian states. These are cheap smartphones, so there is a lot of demand for them. Along with this, he also started manufacturing neck bands, speakers, smart watches etc. Now he is moving towards making smart TVs. At present, his turnover is Rs 110 crore. He says that he mainly makes smartphones and other accessories for rural India.
We also export
Kannav Thukral’s company Blackzone Technologies makes cheap smartphones, priced below Rs 10,000. But their products are sold in India as well as abroad. Currently, they sell their smartphones and other products in Sri Lanka and Nepal. He says that they are currently looking for export opportunities in Bangladesh and Bhutan as well. Talks are going on in this regard. As soon as the deal is finalised, their exports will start in these countries as well. As far as Pakistan is concerned, there are some restrictions on export there.
