Former US President Donald Trump is finalising his choice of running mate, and he could announce his decision this week.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to Interfax, sources informed The Hill about this.

According to the publication, the main contenders for the position are still Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Ohio Senator James David Vance, better known as J.D. Vance, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. However, the senators are considered the more likely options.

Trump is expected to announce his choice before the Republican National Convention, which begins July 15. A source close to the former president’s campaign said Trump could announce his candidate either at a campaign event in Florida this Tuesday, at an event in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, or, most likely, on his Truth Social social media platform any day now.

Both Rubio and Vance said Sunday that they did not know whether either of them would be Trump’s running mate.

US President Joe Biden and Trump have effectively won the internal party elections in the Democratic and Republican parties, but have not yet become official presidential candidates. Their candidacies must be approved at the parties’ conventions. The Republican Party convention will be held in July, and the Democratic Party convention in August.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
