Moroccan Presidency of the CDH, a Consecration of the Kingdom’s Efforts (Italian Federation of Human Rights)

Rome – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) is a recognition of the efforts made by the Kingdom in terms of respect for human rights, said the President of the Italian Federation of Human Rights (FIDU), Antonio Stango.

This election “rewards the efforts made by Morocco, for years, in terms of strengthening human rights and consecrating the fundamental principles of the rule of law”, Mr. Stango indicated in a statement to MAP.

Recalling the reforms launched by the Kingdom in this area, in the framework, in particular, of the 2011 Constitution, the Italian expert noted that through this presidency, “Morocco will be able to contribute to strengthening the fundamental role of the CDH, in this case the monitoring and effective promotion of human rights, in accordance with the authentic text and spirit of the United Nations Charter.”

Mr Stango stressed the importance of this approach in an international context “delicate and agitated” by wars and tensions.

The Kingdom of Morocco was elected to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, during a vote held Wednesday in Geneva.

Of the forty-seven members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy, compared to that of South Africa, which received only 17 votes.
