“From the members of the DPRD, four (suspects) if I’m not mistaken,” said KPK Vice Chairman Alexander Marwata in a written statement, Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

This case covered the former Deputy Chairman of the East Java DPRD, Sahat Tua Simanjuntak. The Panel of Judges at the Surabaya Corruption Court, on Tuesday, 29 September 2023, found him guilty and sentenced him to nine years in prison.

Sahat was found guilty of accepting bribes from East Java Provincial Government grant funds worth IDR 39.5 billion. “Sentence the defendant Sahat T Simanjuntak to prison for 9 years,” said Chief Justice I Dewa Suardhita. This sentence of 9 years in prison is lower than the demand of the KPK prosecutor. At the previous hearing on September 8, prosecutors sentenced Sahat to 12 years in prison.

Apart from being sentenced to 12 years in prison, the defendant Sahat was also fined Rp 1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months. The Golkar Party politician was also ordered to pay compensation worth IDR 39.5 billion.

If he is unable to pay, the prosecutor will confiscate the defendant’s assets for auction and the proceeds will be handed over to the state. If the assets are insufficient they must be replaced by 4 years imprisonment. (Z-7)
