President Gustavo Petro Urrego announced that Daniel Rojas will be the new Minister of Education, replacing Aurora Vergara. “I appreciate her work and dedication,” said Petro about the outgoing minister.
José Daniel Rojas Medellín is an economist from the Santo Tomas University He has extensive experience in project formulation, research, implementation and evaluation of public policies, as well as in monitoring macroeconomic policies. Previously, Rojas served as director of the Sociedad de Activos Especiales (SAE).
In addition, Rojas has served as Territorial Youth Manager at the District Institute for Participation and Community Action (IDPAC)advisor at the District Secretariat for Social Integration of the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá and advisor on macroeconomic policies in the Senate of the Republic.

For her part, the outgoing minister, Aurora Vergara, expressed her gratitude to President Petro and Vice President Francia Márquez Mina: «I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me and my team to accompany these two years of government. for equity, dignity and #SocialJustice in the education sector. Our efforts have always been focused on guaranteeing children and youth the opportunity to carry out a complete, continuous, quality and relevant educational path.
