Artist Dung Nhi was born in 1951 in a family with an artistic tradition; his grandfather, mother and aunt were all artists. Dung Nhi had two older brothers who died and three younger siblings who had pursued a career in the theater. Initially, he pursued a career in education, working as a literature teacher at a key school for six years.
Dung Nhi was unexpectedly introduced to cinema by chance. While he was a student, his mother, actress Thu Ha, went on a long tour. While going to the evacuation site to say goodbye to her mother, Dung Nhi happened to meet director Quoc Long, who was looking for an actor for the role of hero Le Ma Luong in the film Song of the Battle.
Dung Nhi was chosen by director Quoc Long after an audition. However, because he was on his way to military service at the time, his role was given to someone else. After being discharged from the army, Dung Nhi returned to school and was contacted again by the film crew of “Song of the Battle”. The role of hero Le Ma Luong once again belonged to him and marked a turning point in the artist’s acting career.

In 2010, Dung Nhi played the role of Secretary Hoang Kim in the film “Provincial Party Secretary”. This role brought him the award for Most Favorite Actor at the 2010 Most Favorite TV Drama Awards organized by Television Magazine. Some other roles he played were also successful such as: Nam Sai Gon in Bi Vo, Deputy Minister Cao Duc Cam in 2 parts of the film Running from the Law.
