(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 10 – From a ban on cell phones in class even for educational purposes to a return to paper diaries to get kids used to writing again. This is what is written in black and white in the circulars signed by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, illustrated during a conference at Palazzo San Macuto, in Rome, to the applause of the audience in the room. Tablets and computers must be used under the guidance of the teacher, while for smartphones the restrictions – which involve younger students, up to middle school – are more severe. If until recently the use of devices was allowed, with the teacher’s authorization, for educational purposes, from September cell phones will in fact be banned in class for any purpose. The minister had announced it a few months ago, now the circular has been signed. “I don’t think you can do good teaching with a cell phone,” the minister of the Viale Trastevere department stressed during the conference “The artificial school – Developmental age and technological evolution.” During the event, Valditara illustrated some measures that will come into force next school year. Among these is the return to pen and paper to write down what needs to be done. “With the revolution that required us to move toward new technologies always and in any case, homework was put on the electronic register,” the minister recalled, “on that electronic sheet that a child was forced to consult or had to turn to their parents.” Moms and dads will thus continue to be notified by the electronic device, while children will return to what Valditara called “the old-fashioned diary,” a provision that will be valid for the next school year and for subsequent years. In this way, parents will still be able to check if their child doesn’t let them see the diary, and “the child gets used to writing.” (ANSA).
