New Delhi: Former opener batsman Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid in Team India. Gautam Gambhir’s name was being discussed even before Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended, but on July 9, Gautam Gambhir’s name was announced as the head coach. Gautam Gambhir also gave his reaction on becoming the coach of Team India. Gambhir wrote on social media, ‘India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I am honored to be back despite wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The dreams of 1.4 billion Indians are on the shoulders of the people in blue uniform and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!’

Former veteran opener Gautam Gambhir played a key role in making India the champion in the 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cups. His career for Team India has been very impressive. Gambhir played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20 International matches for India. In Test cricket, Gambhir scored 4154 runs at an average of 41.95. This includes 22 fifties and 9 centuries. Gambhir’s highest score in this format has been 206 runs.
