The tragic incident of the death of a 40-year-old French woman, from Kasos, shocked those who took part in the AEGEAN 600 race, as well as the entire sailing community.

Due to the bad weather conditions it was quite difficult for the boats involved in the race, with 14 of them abandoning, but no one could imagine what happened to the boat with the 40-year-old sailor on the table.

A 36-year-old Ukrainian man was also found with her.

Both were collected by the rest of the team, but the 40-year-old had been lost.

The crew members informed the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, who helped the sailboat reach the port of Kasos.

The 40-year-old was examined by a Kasos Regional Clinic doctor, who declared her dead, and her body is to be transferred to the Rhodes Forensic Service for an autopsy.

For the distance of 605 nautical miles of the race route, this means an average speed per hour of 16.2 nautical miles. Jason Carroll’s American trimaran ARGO finished just 1 minute 21 seconds behind ZOULOU. The two boats alternated in the lead throughout the race.
