Over the past five days, heavy rain has flooded more than 1,000 vehicles, with the estimated damage exceeding 9.4 billion won.

According to the non-life insurance industry on the 10th, from the 6th to 3:00 PM on the same day, 1,028 vehicles were reported to 12 non-life insurance companies selling automobile insurance for flood damage. The estimated damage is 9.45 billion won.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ), heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour fell in the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions the night before, causing about 50 houses to be flooded and forcing 3,000 residents to be evacuated.

The Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service are operating an ‘Emergency Evacuation Notification Service’ by establishing a related system with insurance companies, the Korea Insurance Development Institute, the Non-Life Insurance Association, and the Korea Expressway Corporation to prevent damage to life and property due to vehicle flooding and secondary accidents on highways.

Financial authorities are cooperating with them to utilize automobile insurance subscription information to provide evacuation guidance to vehicles at risk of flooding or secondary accidents, regardless of whether they are subscribed to Hi-Pass or not, regardless of the insurance company.

Experts recommend that if your vehicle is submerged, drive out of the flooded area if the water is halfway up the tires, and abandon the vehicle if the water is more than two-thirds full.

An insurance industry official explained, “Due to the heavy rain in the southern region the day before, the largest number of damage claims were filed in Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do,” and “The total number of cases is expected to increase as claims continue to be filed.”
