The index of industrial production decreased by 3.3 percent in May 2024 compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted, reports the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

Compared to May 2023, a decrease of 6.3 percent was recorded in the calendar-adjusted index of industrial production.

Monthly changes

On a monthly basis, a decline was recorded in the mining industry – by 10.2 percent, in the production and distribution of electricity and heat energy and gas – by 5.3 percent, and in the processing industry – by 2.3 percent.

A more significant decline in the processing industry was observed in the production of products from other non-metallic mineral raw materials – by 11.7 percent, the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers – by 11.5 percent, the production of tobacco products – by 10.4 per hundred.

An increase was registered in the production of chemical products – by 6.2 percent, the production of textiles and textile products, excluding clothing – by 2.7 percent, the production of clothing – by 1.4 percent.

Annual changes

On an annual basis, a decrease in industrial production, calculated from the calendar-adjusted data, was recorded in the mining industry – by 15.6 percent, in the processing industry – by 6 percent, in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas – by 1, 1 percent.

In the manufacturing industry, a significant decrease compared to May 2023 was observed in the production of vehicles, excluding cars – by 29.9 percent, the processing of hides, the production of shoes and other products from processed leather without hair – by 26.9 percent , the production of computer and communication equipment, electronic and optical products – by 25.2 percent, the production not classified elsewhere – by 24.5 percent, the production of electrical equipment – by 21.9 percent, the production of machinery and equipment with a total and special purpose – with 21 percent.

Growth was registered in the production of chemical products – by 27.5 percent, the production of basic metals – by 19.1 percent, the production of medicinal substances and products – by 11.7 percent.
