“In Poland, we are starting to prepare the first Ukrainian brigade, which will be formed by volunteers in Poland. We have up to a million Ukrainians of both sexes, and several thousand of them have already registered for this project,” Sikorski said.
He pointed out that many of them really want to serve their country and replace their countrymen fighting at the front, but stressed that they do not want to be sent into combat without proper training and equipment.
Sikorski said that training and equipment will be provided by Poland, after which the volunteers will be sent to Ukraine as a unit with the right to return to Poland after the rotation. “If every European country acted like this, Ukraine would have more brigades,” emphasized Sikorski.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously announced that a “Legion of Ukrainians” would be established in Poland to provide military training to Ukrainians living in various European Union (EU) countries.
“Every citizen of Ukraine who decides to be in the legion will be able to sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the president added.
