The new UK Labour government under Keir Starmer has no plans to block or delay the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Galant.
Today in Israel writes about this.
The decision comes amid criticism of the former conservative government, which is accused of trying to hinder the prosecution of Israeli officials for their role in “war crimes” by dragging out trials.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan had previously filed a motion to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant, as well as a number of Hamas leaders, including Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohammed Deif, on suspicion of war crimes.
Israeli top officials are accused of making decisions that allegedly led to “mass murder of civilians” in the Gaza Strip. Israel has criticized Karim Khan, pointing out that only the Hamas terror group is to blame for the suffering of the enclave’s civilian population.
The UK, a member state of the ICC, earlier in June this year submitted a request for written information arguing that the Palestinian Authority has no jurisdiction over Israeli citizens under existing international agreements, making it difficult to transfer jurisdiction to the ICC.
Earlier, Cursor wrote that the media had published new information about the activities of ICC prosecutor Karim Khan.
