CDH Presidency: Morocco consolidates its leadership in Africa (former Spanish MP)

Madrid – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) consolidates Morocco’s position and its leadership on the African continent, said Juan Vicente Pérez Aras, former Spanish MP, on Wednesday.

“With this election, the Kingdom of Morocco consolidates its leadership in Africa as a major player on the continental and international scene,” Mr. Pérez Aras stressed in a statement to MAP.

“The election of Morocco to preside over the UN Human Rights Council for the year 2024 is a very appropriate decision,” noted the former deputy for Valencia and member of the Popular Party (PP).

This new consecration of Morocco constitutes a “recognition” of the achievements made by the Kingdom in the preservation and promotion of human rights and the efforts made by Moroccan diplomacy under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, indicated Mr. Pérez Aras.

Morocco was brilliantly elected to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, during a vote held Wednesday in Geneva.

Of the forty-seven members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy, compared to that of South Africa, which received only 17 votes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad said in a statement.
