The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered the seizure of the bank accounts of 3 people, including Syed Abed Ali Jiban, the driver of the former chairman of the PSC, and his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, who were arrested on the charges of leaking the question papers of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. At the same time, BFIU has asked for all the details of their account transactions.
On Tuesday (July 9), BFIU has issued a letter to banks and financial institutions in this regard. The letter also mentions that the bank account will be frozen until the case is settled. A concerned official of BFIU confirmed this information.
He said that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has already arrested 17 people in connection with the question leak. Among them, Abed Ali and his son, 3 people have been arrested and their information has been sought. The information of the rest of the arrested persons is also being collected with the help of various agencies including the Anti-Corruption Commission. Their bank accounts will also be frozen.
CID arrested 17 people including Abed Ali by raiding various places of the country including the capital on Monday (July 8) on the allegation of question leak. 17 accused arrested in this case were produced in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Among them, 6 accused including the driver Syed Abed Ali Jiban voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement. Later, the investigating officer of the case, Additional Special Superintendent of Police, Cyber Investigation and Operations, Jewel Chakma requested to record their statement. Apart from this, another 10 accused were requested to be detained in jail. Later, the lawyers applied for the bail of 10 accused. On the other hand, the state opposed the bail. After the hearing of both sides, the court rejected the bail of 10 accused and ordered to send them to jail.
