This meeting, which was attended in particular by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, the Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, governor of the Tangier-Assilah prefecture, Younès Tazi, as well as officials from public establishments and external services involved in the ongoing preparations for the organization of the 2030 World Cup.
On this occasion, emphasis was placed on the development and infrastructure projects underway to enable the city of Tangier to meet the standards of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and guarantee good organisation worthy of this global football event.
In this sense, the presentations highlighted the progress of the extension of the large stadium of Tangier and the Tangier Ibn Battouta airport, the development of the Tangier Med Passenger and Tangier city ports, the study of the extension of the railway network for the benefit of neighboring towns, the upgrading of traffic routes, the rehabilitation of car parks in the vicinity of the stadium, the increase in the accommodation capacity of hotels, and other planned projects, in addition to the adequacy of professional training to mobilize the necessary human resources in anticipation of this sporting event.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Laftit indicated that this meeting is part of a tour of candidate cities to host the World Cup matches, with a view to taking stock of the preparations underway and inquiring about the means and requirements for Tangier to be at the rendezvous of this international event, especially since this city, by its geographical position, constitutes a link with Spain and Portugal.
Mr. Laftit also noted that Tangier has experienced, in accordance with the high Royal directives, over the last 25 years a great evolution thanks to the large-scale projects and the integrated vision to make Tangier a modern city, stressing the need to complete all the projects in progress or scheduled as part of the preparations for the organization of the World Cup within the allotted time.
For his part, Mr. Lekjaa specified that this meeting comes within the framework of a series of meetings scheduled to examine the progress of the preparations underway in the different regions of the Kingdom to host global football events, at their head the 2030 World Cup.
Tangier, thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, has been engaged in a process of sustained development for about 25 years, assured Mr. Lekjaa, calling for the mobilization of all stakeholders to complete the preparations and thus enable Tangier and the region in general to ensure an exceptional organization of this great football event which consecrates the historical and civilizational reputation of the city.
This meeting comes after a series of similar meetings in Rabat, Agadir, Fez and Casablanca, and soon in Marrakech, as part of the intense preparations for the organization of the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
