Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galusin told the Russian propaganda channel Ria that Kyiv’s ideas for another meeting after the mid-June conference in Switzerland are known. From Russia’s point of view, only the proposals of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be discussed again at such a conference, while other peace initiatives would be ignored. “Such ultimatums are unacceptable to us, and we will not participate in such summits,” declared Galusin.
The media reports that Ukraine is actively working on the organization of the second conference, this time with the participation of Russia. Ukraine is hoping to organize a summit before the US presidential election in November.
The first summit organized at the request of Ukraine was held in Switzerland last month. It did not discuss peace talks, but Kyiv sought to gain international support for principles to end the war.
The final declaration of the summit was signed by about 80 countries, but some major powers that maintain good relations with Russia, such as India and Saudi Arabia, did not sign it, while China did not participate in the conference. Saudi Arabia is considered a possible host of the second meeting.
Moscow says it is ready to negotiate an end to the war, but demands the handover of large parts of Ukraine’s territory and population to Russian occupation and the surrender of the Ukrainian army. Such demands are unacceptable for Ukraine, and Kyiv wants to recover all territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea.
