Another great chess event will be hosted on our island. It is the 2024 World Amateur Championship that will be held from October 26th to November 5th, with registration already open.
The relevant announcement issued for information states the following:
“All FIDE Member Federations and eligible players with a FIDE rating below 2300 are invited to participate in the FIDE World Amateur Chess Championship 2024. The event will be held in Rhodes, Greece, from 26 October to 5 November 2024. The event is open to players registered with their National Associations. FIDE member Federations have the right to send as many players as they want.
The championship will be held in the FIDE rating categories U2300, U2000 and U1700. There will be separate women’s championships if there are at least ten players from at least two continents in each division. All matches will be Swiss 9-round system with classic time control (90 minutes +30 seconds).
The registration deadline for all players, chaperones and expedition members is September 9, 2024.
