Farmácia Popular is even better. Starting this week, when the 20-year-old program is complete, 95% of medicines and supplies will be made available free of charge to the entire population. Now, in addition to medicines for asthma, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis and contraceptives, the population has free access to treatment for high cholesterol, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma and rhinitis. Minister Nísia Trindade announced the measure on Wednesday (10).
It is expected that at least 3 million people who already use the program will be affected, generating savings of up to R$400 per year for users.
Free sanitary pads are also available at pharmacies accredited by the program. The initiative is part of the Menstrual Dignity campaign, which distributes the hygiene item to low-income people registered with CadÚnico.
