The study of 112 skeletons, from 104 burials found in the sites Tlatel 7, Xaltocan polygon 6 y No grid 5in the zone of St. Luciawhere the Felipe Ángeles International Airport is located (AIFA), allowed the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), explore what pre-Hispanic life was like in the region.

The investigation of the remains found during the construction of the airport: “reveals aspects of life in that area and in that period, after an analysis anthropophysicist carried out by the person responsible for the Bioarchaeology SectionJorge Arturo Talavera González, from the Directorate of Archaeological Rescue (DSA) of the INAH, and his team,” the institute revealed in a statement.

Of the remains found, the one that stands out is that of a woman between 35 and 40 years of age who has a fracture in the lower part of the left arm.

“The interesting thing is that the footprints of the Bones show growth of bone tissuewhich indicates that in addition to the woman surviving between five and seven months after the traumatic event, she was fitted with a prosthesis to help her stabilize her arm and heal, which was impossible without surgery, so she ultimately died, possibly as a result of an infection,” explained Talavera González.

He also spoke about the two hypotheses that were created in response to the analysis.“The first is that the woman reacted instinctively to an attack and used her arm to cover her face; and the second is that she was a warrior who, by covering herself with a shield, suffered the injury.”
