In response to an oral question on “The direct housing assistance program”, presented by the democratic and social constitutional group, Ms. El Mansouri said that since the launch of the digital platform on January 2, 89% of the applications submitted (23% concern Moroccans living abroad) are eligible to benefit from this aid, specifying that 73% of the applications relate to housing worth less than 300,000 dirhams, while 27% concern housing dedicated to the middle class.
Regarding the age group of applicants, the minister said that the average age is 39 years, of which 66% are men and 34% are women, noting that the applications were distributed according to geographical areas, particularly in the prefectures of Fez, Meknes and Marrakech, the province of Berrechid, and the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah.
The new housing assistance program, launched on January 2, 2024, has a social dimension, by guaranteeing housing to Moroccans as a constitutional right, and an economic dimension, by contributing to the take-off of a vital sector for the national economy, which employs more than a million Moroccans.
The ministry aims, during the first year of the program, to encourage families to acquire a housing product, which amounts to approximately 114,000 homes, of which 58,000 homes are dedicated to the middle class, she said.
In this vein, Mrs. El Mansouri reviewed the various Royal initiatives in the housing sector over the past two decades, which have enabled 4 million citizens with limited incomes to access decent housing, she noted, adding that the social housing program, launched by His Majesty the King in 2010, has made it possible to build 650,000 units, with 100,000 units currently in preparation, thus reducing the housing deficit.
