The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved two proposals to import 80,000 metric tonnes of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer in two separate lots through state contracts. The import of these fertilizers will cost 260 crore 7 lakh 20 thousand taka. On the other hand, the committee sent back a proposal to construct a 10-storey administrative building of Jahangirnagar University.

On Thursday (April 11) three procurement proposals were approved in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement in the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat. Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presided over the meeting which was attended by committee members, senior secretaries of cabinet departments, secretaries of concerned ministries and senior officials.

He said, the proposal to import 40 thousand metric tons of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer from the Canadian Commercial Corporation in the third lot has been approved under the contract at the state level. BADC’s proposal to import MOP fertilizer from Canada through state-level agreements was approved in principle at the CCEA meeting. As the activities of the previously executed agreement were completed, the agreement was renewed on April 3, 2024 with the approval of the CCEA meeting, keeping the conditions of the existing agreement the same. According to the pricing method as per the Fertilizer Import Agreement, the import of 40 thousand (+10%) metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canada in the third lot will cost 1 crore 10 lakh 20 thousand US dollars, which is 130 crore 3 lakh 60 thousand taka in Bangladeshi currency. The price of MOP fertilizer is USD 275.50 per metric ton.

He said, the committee has approved another proposal to import 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canada in the fourth lot under the contract at the state level. As the activities of the previously executed contract were completed, the contract was renewed again on April 3 with the approval of the CCEA meeting, keeping the conditions of the existing contract the same. According to the pricing method mentioned in the Fertilizer Import Agreement, the purchase of 40 thousand (+10%) metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canada in the fourth lot at the current international market price will cost 1 crore 10 lakh 20 thousand US dollars, which is 130 crore 3 lakh 60 thousand taka in Bangladeshi currency. The price of MOP fertilizer will be USD 275.50 per metric ton.

The secretary said that in the meeting, the committee sent back the proposal for the purchase of the construction of a 10-storey administrative building under the project of ‘further development of Jahangirnagar University’. Four organizations submitted bids when tenders were invited through open tendering for the procurement of construction works for the construction of a 10-storey administrative building under the project. Two of them are technically responsive. At the end of the tender process, TEC Responsive lowest bidder jointly proposed the name of (1) MBPL and (2) ATCL, but the committee sent back the proposal for further scrutiny. The cost of this project was 148 crore 44 lakh 67 thousand 191 taka.
