Rabat – The 59th session of the Board of Directors and the 19th General Assembly of the Arab Electricity Union (UAE) were held on December 21 and 22 in Riyadh, under the chairmanship of the Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and President of the UAE, Abderrahim El Hafidi.

During these meetings, the members of the UAE, “strategic actors in the electricity sectors of Arab countries”, reviewed all the decisions taken during the previous session, with a view to continuing the operationalization of the Union’s strategic plan aimed at modernizing the Union’s structures, in particular through the adoption of an effective governance system and the reorientation of its missions and objectives, ONEE said in a press release.

Discussions also focused on strengthening the UAE’s human and financial resources, establishing a new membership system as well as preparing the new UAE headquarters to promote the Union’s operational efficiency.

Quoted in the press release, Mr. El Hafidi welcomed the considerable efforts made in this direction and called for the continuation of joint efforts in order to ensure the continued development and success of this organization.

“Since his election as head of the Arab Electricity Union in 2018, Mr. El Hafidi has worked to make the UAE a prosperous organization with a clear vision aimed at improving the costs and quality of electricity services offered to Arab end users, optimizing energy security and accelerating the energy transition,” the Office emphasizes.

The Arab Electricity Union, which is commemorating its 36th anniversary this year and has 19 Arab member countries, plays a crucial role in strengthening regional cooperation, facilitating the exchange of expertise and resources, and promoting sustainable energy policies to address the challenges of the energy sector, and contribute to social and economic development in the Arab world.
