In this context, these committees continue their daily tours in all vegetable, fruit and meat shops and markets, as well as at weekly markets in order to protect consumers’ rights, their health and safety, to guarantee the transparency of commercial transactions and to fight against all practices contrary to the rules of competition.
According to data from the Economic Affairs and Coordination Division in the wilaya of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, the provincial and local joint control committees carried out, during the first three weeks of the holy month of Ramadan, 24 field visits in urban and rural areas, during which 324 points of sale were checked and 106 kg of spoiled and unfit for consumption products seized and destroyed.
The same source added that during these tours, 9 offences relating to the possession of prohibited plastic bags and the failure to display the prices of food products were recorded and forwarded to the competent courts in order to take legal measures against the offenders.
The seized products include meat, fish, jam, vegetables, fruit, dates, dried fruit, soft drinks, milk and milk derivatives.
Mr. Hussein Cheblal, controller at the Economic Affairs and Coordination Division, told MAP that these provincial and local committees are intensifying control operations during the holy month of Ramadan to inquire about the supply status of markets and prices, noting that 24 field visits to different markets and points of sale were carried out by these committees during the first three weeks of this month, which resulted in the seizure and destruction of about 106 kg of products unfit for consumption.
He added that a schedule of control operations in urban and rural areas has been established in order to learn about the situation of market supply and to combat the various forms of speculation and monopoly, specifying that the supply of markets is normal and the markets are sufficiently supplied with food products.
