There are several signs of fraud

According to M. Užupis, the Song Festival is just one of many events that fraudsters decided to profit from. This summer, other events of great interest will be held in Lithuania and Europe – singers Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, tour concerts of the Coldplay group, the Olympic Games in Paris and other events.

The IT security expert urges you to be vigilant and buy tickets only from trusted resellers. According to him, one should be especially careful in social networks, where tickets are resold in specially created groups.

“Rebuying tickets on social networks is risky. Several signs can give away a scam. First of all, make sure that the seller’s profile is genuine. If you see that there is no profile picture, it shows some cartoon character or a suspicious person, and if the profile was created very recently, there are no posts, only a few friends, then the profile may be fake. Check whether you have mutual friends, whether this seller has sold tickets in a group before, whether there have been no previous complaints”, advises M. Užupis.

According to him, criticality should be maintained even when communicating with the seller. Transactions that require immediate payment without providing details should be avoided. “Also, do not transfer money under any circumstances if the recipient of the specified account is not the same person with whom you correspond – this is another indication that the seller may be an impostor,” warns the security expert.

According to him, even after receiving the purchased tickets, there is no need to rush to be happy – they can be fake and look almost the same as the real ones. True, these tickets may contain inconsistencies, for example, unusual font, incorrect information about the event, missing some security elements.

Cheats in other ways too

M. Užupis points out that fraudsters pretending to be ticket resellers are not only looking for their victims in social networks. One of the most common types of fraud is fake websites. Such sites are often betrayed by misspelled URLs, lack of contact information, and poor site design.

“Authentic ticket resale platforms usually look professional and provide customer service. To avoid falling victim to this scam, always check the address bar and make sure it starts with the ” format, meaning a secure connection. It is also worth checking customer reviews and ratings on independent websites and forums,” says the expert.

Another common form of fraud is the overpayment refund tactic, where the fraudster asks for more and promises to refund the difference. In this way, the aim is to defraud not only money, but also payment information. If possible, M. Užupis urges to use only safe payment methods.

“Avoid direct bank transfers, prepaid and cash transactions. Instead, choose proven online payment systems that provide fraud protection. It is best to repurchase tickets from official resale sites, which protect against fake transactions and ensure that you receive genuine tickets. Beware of unusually low prices as well. If the offer seems too good to be true, it is probably fake,” says M. Užupis.
