“Love is…” wrote Kim Casali on his famous cartoons in the 1960s. After a few years and psychological research that has traveled around the world, the famous beginning of the phrase can end with “… ask the right questions”. In 1997 psychologists Arthur Aron – we read in the New York Times – it shows that it is possible to make two strangers fall in love in an hour with a test of 36 questions divided into 3 groups, designed to reduce the defenses of the other.
Love analysis in the laboratory
Twenty years ago Aron and his colleagues published an article in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin titled “The Experimental Generation of Social Closeness.” They want to find out if it is possible to create an artificial space, a ‘lab’ in which two strangers can connect with each other and build a deep friendship, or even a romantic relationship, in less than an hour. So they set up several experiments with pairs of people who didn’t know each other. The two volunteers entered an empty room, sat opposite each other and began to answer a list of questions, 36 in particular. At the end the volunteers have to look at each other for 4 minutes. The duration of the meeting should not exceed 45 minutes.
