(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 13 – Almost a third of families (31%) have planned a higher spending budget for summer holidays this year compared to 2023, while for 18% it will be lower, mainly due to the increase in family expenses or due to other expenses to be paid in the coming months. Then there is a 42% that plans to spend like last summer and a 9% that has not yet defined the spending budget. In any case, the average overall spending per capita planned for summer holidays is equal to 1,190 euros, 10% more than last summer (1,090 euros). This emerges from the focus on summer holidays of the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory in collaboration with Swg. Between June and September, however, more than half of Italians will take both short and long vacations (51% versus 49% in the same period in 2023), 34% will only take short vacations or only long vacations, while 16% will not go on vacation (a share decreasing compared to 23% last summer). Among the reasons for not going on vacation, in first place, for almost 1 in 3 Italians, is the lack of economic availability, followed by the need to save (23%), but there are also those who have to stay at home to look after non-self-sufficient people (14%). For those who, on the other hand, will go on vacation in the summer, among the main activities they will dedicate themselves to, rest stands out in first place, followed by other reasons such as seeing new places, being with loved ones, tasting typical products, immersing oneself in nature or, in any case, being outdoors. The choice of travel companion (or companions) remains fundamental, and for over half of Italians, it is their partner, and this is true for both short vacations – that is, breaks of 1-2 nights and trips of 3 to 5 nights – and for longer ones with at least 6 nights. Friends, on the other hand, appear to be the ideal travel companions, especially for breaks of 1-2 nights. (ANSA).
