Mumbai: Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA), which won a big victory in the Lok Sabha elections, has suffered a big defeat in Maharashtra. The Congress party, which won 13 Lok Sabha seats in the elections, could not keep the MLAs united in the Legislative Council elections. Half a dozen Congress MLAs did cross voting. This made the path easy for the Maharashtra ruling Mahayuti (NDA) candidates, while on the other hand, one MVA candidate had to face defeat. Not only this, the victory of the other candidate also got stuck, although after getting 1 vote less, Shiv Sena UBT candidate has been declared victorious. Out of 11 seats of the Legislative Council, Mahayuti got nine and MVA got two seats. The total number of members in the 288-member assembly was 274.

Narvekar won with difficulty
While Devendra Fadnavis played a role in the 2022 Legislative Council elections, Ajit Pawar hurt the Congress in these elections. Ajit Pawar managed to get additional votes after keeping his MLAs united. A quota of 23 votes was set for victory in this election. Congress had 37 votes. Pragya Rajeev Satav got 25 votes. She got two votes more than the quota. In such a situation, 12 votes of Congress should have been transferred to the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidates, but something else happened. The Thackeray group had 17 votes. In such a situation, Milind Narvekar of the Thackeray faction needed 6 votes of the Congress. If these votes were received, Narvekar would have got 23 votes to win, but in reality Narvekar got 22 votes, so it is clear that seven votes of Congress were divided. Due to this, a candidate of Maha Vikas Aghadi got one vote less, while NCP (Sharad Pawar) supported Jayant Patil got stuck at 12 votes.

Who played the game in the elections?
In this election, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar had a total of 42 votes. They needed four votes to make both the candidates win. Both the NCP candidates got 47 votes. In this way, Ajitdada group got five additional votes. In such a situation, it is believed that Ajitdada group broke 5 votes of Congress. This is being considered a big setback for Congress. Shiv Sena and BJP candidates also won easily in the elections. Congress did not barricade the MLAs to keep cross voting in this election.

Overconfidence cost Congress heavily
In such a situation, it is believed that Congress’s overconfidence proved costly. Padnya Satav won but the cross voting of Congress MLAs worsened the situation of MVA. Sharad Pawar supported candidate Jayant Patil got 12 votes. Sharad Pawar faction had only 12 votes. They got all of them. Congress leaders had taunted the Mahayuti MLAs for being kept in the hotel. They had said that we do not need to keep the MLAs in the hotel. In such a situation, Mahayuti played a trick.
