On July 12, as part of her current working visit to St. Petersburg, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova took part in a meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), Day.Az reports with reference to the press service of the parliament.

Speaking during the discussion of the issue of participation of the CIS IPA observers in the early presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that the relevant state bodies had created all the conditions for the process to be held at the highest level. Full transparency of the electoral process was ensured so that voters could freely and unhindered express their will. This was also stated by international observers.

Mentioning the participation of 790 international observers from 89 countries and 72 international organizations, including 22 parliaments and 12 inter-parliamentary organizations, in monitoring the elections, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted that the main point concerning the elections was that our people voted for the further development of Azerbaijan, which fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty. It was noted that Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev was re-elected as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, gaining more than 92 percent of the votes of voters who took part in the elections.

In her speech, Sahiba Gafarova described the observation of electoral processes as an important area of ​​cooperation within the IPA CIS. It promotes the development of democracy and rule of law in the territories of member countries through the exchange of experience in the field of organizing and conducting electoral processes. Therefore, the activities and contribution of the International Institute for Monitoring the Development of Democracy, Parliamentarism and Observance of Electoral Rights of Citizens of the CIS PA (IMDEP), including its Baku branch, in the process of observing elections deserve special attention.

In her speech, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the need to continue cooperation in the field of monitoring electoral processes and said that in accordance with the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, early parliamentary elections will be held in our country on September 1, 2024.
