Al-Hussein, peace be upon him, said about his grandfather, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family and grant them peace: “Whoever sees an unjust ruler, who makes permissible what God has forbidden, who breaks God’s covenant, who opposes the Sunnah of the Messenger of God, who commits sin and aggression against God’s servants, and then does not change… [عليه] By saying and not doing, God was truly bound to admit him into his place.”
The miserable conditions of Bahrain under the Khalifa regime can never improve, because evil only comes out as evil. If a citizen is inside the prisons, he will find the manifestations of corruption and inhumanity clearly visible to the eye, and if he lives outside the prison, he will see with his own eyes the deterioration of the situation in every city, village, or street. This Khalifa regime is corrupt to the core and it is impossible to reform it one day. Over the past hundred years, citizens of various ideological and political backgrounds have sought reform and made the greatest sacrifices for that, but their goals have not been achieved so far. How many martyrs have sacrificed their lives for that, and how many political prisoners have been herded by the Khalifas into prison cells, one by one or in groups, and how many have been banished by the regime from the land of their fathers and grandfathers.
The fighters knew their compass direction and followed it, wanting nothing but the face of God, and thus recorded a brilliant history for the country and the people, and became icons that cannot be hidden. Therefore, the struggle continued and successive generations joined it, and the Khalifas were unable to break the back of the free people despite the atrocities and crimes they committed in the past and present. So what does that mean? There is one thing that is impossible, and another that is necessary.
It is impossible to reform the corruption of the Caliphate, and this is what the caravans of martyrs, prisoners and exiles have reached. They have exerted their efforts and sacrificed what they had, but they found the path to reforming the Caliphate rule blocked. It became clear to them that it is impossible for tyranny to transform into democracy, and that the corrupt ruler is unable to reform himself and that the dictator is unable to practice democracy. This result, which took a hundred years to become clear in an unambiguous and unambiguous manner, is the same result that Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, realized when he faced the Umayyad project and confronted Yazid bin Muawiyah. His father and brother had preceded him in confronting the Caliphate project, but they found nothing but war, rebellion, deviation and systematic targeting of the Messenger of God, his project and his family. It became clear to Imam Hussein bin Ali, peace be upon him, that trying to reform the Umayyad rule is an impossible task and a waste of time and effort. The issue is not limited to some wrong policies or deviant political behavior, but rather the problem is structural without limits, and the Umayyad regime carries within it all the elements of corruption, and it is a tribal thesis in which faith has never entered the hearts of its owners, according to the Quranic text: The Bedouins say, “We believe.” Say, “You have not believed; but say, ‘We have submitted,’ for faith has not yet entered your hearts.” Al-Hussein, peace be upon him, realized, after matters had come to Yazid bin Muawiyah, that he was facing a project that was contrary to what Muhammad bin Abdullah had brought, and that trying to keep up with it would fail and negatively affect the Islamic project that Muhammad bin Abdullah, peace and blessings be upon him, carried. Thus, Al-Hussein, peace be upon him, embodied the meanings of faith, honesty, awareness, and steadfastness. It is sufficient to review some of his sayings since his departure from Mecca on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah in the sixtieth year after the Hijra, to discover these facts.
The essential matter is to preserve the flame of the revolution aimed at change and adherence to the principles of Muhammad bin Abdullah, peace and blessings be upon him, and to confront the ignorant tribal projects. Popular enthusiasm, especially among the young generation, represents the pinnacle of this awareness, which was embodied in the person, mind and spirit of Hussein, and spread with merit among successive generations who saw in Hussein’s path a path to salvation first and foremost, a comprehensive reform project and a symbol of human dignity, mind, religion and life. When the youth of Bahrain go out to protest every day, they embody faith, awareness, steadfastness and sacrifice for the sake of truth. These people saw paradise with their own eyes and did not deviate from it or seek an alternative to it. It is the firm faith-based awareness that rebels against the limits of time and place and the souls of its people are filled with love for goodness, humanity and monotheism. The Husseini path that began with a personal decision by Abu Abdullah to reject the Umayyad project in its entirety and confront it practically was historical. It did not deviate or stray from its goal or become confused in the minds of its lovers. Therefore, after fourteen centuries, the Husseinis still see it with their own eyes and their souls are increasingly steadfast on the path of awareness and reform, inspired by the leadership of the Karbala revolution and not feeling restless or relaxed. Here we are faced with distinguished models of faith that were not deceived by Umayyad propaganda and did not surrender to the project brought by Muawiyah, which Yazid outsmarted to bring out within the Islamic framework. What we will hear in the next two weeks about the story of Karbala, its symbols and its results will only increase our determination, steadfastness and feeling of joy because we are following the path of Hussein and aiming for the reform that he proposed as the title of his journey.
The Husseini phenomenon that was clearly embodied in the Battle of Karbala has witnessed instances throughout history, as it has become synonymous with freedom, dignity, legal commitment and reform. More than 70 people were martyred with Imam Hussein, who embodied the pinnacle of faith, honesty, sincerity and sacrifice, but the number of Husseinis multiplied in the following centuries, and their sacrifices continued without stopping. Some of them were tortured to death, some were slaughtered by the swords of the oppressors, some were executed by firing squad, and some were hanged on the gallows. It is a story whose chapters and instances continue. The execution of the young Abdullah Al-Muhaishi last week by the Al Saud is nothing but a continuation of the injustice that the Yazidi project entails. The executioners of the Al Saud cut off his neck, just as the Yazidis cut off the heads of Hussein and those with him. How similar tonight is to yesterday, as the people are the descendants of the people, all linked by the Umayyad project that targets the religion of Muhammad bin Abdullah, may the best prayers and peace be upon him, and his project aimed at saving humanity from the unjust rulers and the systems of Satan.
Our Bahraini people, who have held fast to Muhammad bin Abdullah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his sacred divine project, will not abandon Al-Hussein, the grandson of the Messenger of God, for a moment. Rather, they will celebrate his memory, as they have been accustomed to for centuries, in their well-known ways, and the descendants of Yazid will not be able to prevent them from doing so. How many were martyred for God on the path of Al-Hussein, and how many were arrested and tortured. And here are the Yazidis seeking to silence the Husseini voice by preventing the travel of preachers and eulogists, and preventing the arrival of Al-Hussein’s servants from Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula, as part of the policies of oppression and besieging the Husseini project that refuses to fade, but rather its slogans have been rising in the horizon since October 12, 680 AD (Muharram 10, 61 AH). And here are the lovers of Al-Hussein chanting in the streets of Bahrain with their voices, “Humiliation is far from us.” It is impossible for the Bahrainis to forget their infallible Imam, the grandson of the Messenger of God and the son of the Master of Guardians. The tyrants of the Caliphate must understand this. Even if all the armies of the world supported them, they would not have been able to extinguish the Husseini voice that has filled the country’s atmosphere since a number of its sons were martyred with Hussein in Karbala. They must surrender to the people who rejected their rule and insisted on replacing it with a national rule in which all citizens participate, regardless of their sects and ethnicities. The sacrifices made by the people are enough for their goals to be achieved with the victory, help and guidance of God.
O God, have mercy on our righteous martyrs, and grant them a position of truth with You, and release our prisoners, O Lord of the worlds.
