The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States issued the new issue of the “House of Arabs” magazine, which included a group of topics and issues that occupy the regional and international arenas, in addition to the activities of the League of Arab States.
The topic of artificial intelligence topped the magazine’s topics for the July 2024 issue, as the magazine devoted its editorial to this topic.
Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, wrote that human civilization, with the emergence of artificial intelligence applications, has entered a new phase within the scope of what is known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which has sparked an in-depth discussion about the opportunities and tools this development provides for sustainability, overcoming the slowdown in achieving comprehensive development goals, and confronting multiple development challenges, without neglecting the risks these applications pose to lifestyles, job losses, and serious threats to recognized human values.
In his opening speech, titled “For Arab Governance in the Field of Artificial Intelligence,” Khattabi added that in any case, the nature of human development makes moving towards the future an inevitable choice that requires engaging in this transformation by owning smart technological techniques, enhancing capabilities and skills in this field, and exploiting them in the service of productive, economic, social, and media sectors.
He added that in this regard, the Media and Communications Sector is working to monitor and interpret developments related to artificial intelligence in the context of this technological development, which has become a focus of special interest on the agenda of the meetings of the General Secretariat and ministerial councils, including the Council of Information Ministers and specialized organizations operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States.
