The Attorney General’s Office ordered the opening of a preliminary investigation against undetermined officials of the Colombian National Army for alleged workplace harassment by a major against a third corporal, who allegedly decided to take his own life at the Facatativá military base, Cundinamarca.

The Regional Investigation Unit of Cundinamarca said that, according to media reports, the 23-year-old non-commissioned officer committed suicide in the early hours of Wednesday, June 19, after having repeatedly reported that his superior did not tolerate his Caribbean origin.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office will also evaluate the complaints that the non-commissioned officer filed with various authorities and even the request for psychological help that he made to the military entity and that he apparently did not receive.

As part of its actions, the disciplinary control body requested the practice of evidence, with which it will seek to determine the circumstances of time, manner and place in which the events took place, in order to, based on its analysis, define whether or not action was taken under the protection of any cause for exclusion of liability.
