/ Alhurra website quoted military sources on Sunday as saying that the Sudanese army has taken control of Abu Rouf neighborhood in Omdurman, after clashes with the Rapid Support Forces in the neighborhoods east of Omdurman.

Abu Rouf is located among the neighborhoods close to the Nile River, and is considered one of the closest neighborhoods to the radio and television headquarters, which has been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces since April 15.

The sources reported that “violent” ground clashes took place between the two parties in the East Omdurman axis, in which machine guns were used, before the army was able to impose its control over the neighborhood.

However, sources in the Rapid Support Forces told Alhurra that the radio and television headquarters and the surrounding neighborhoods are still under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

The city of Omdurman, which is separated from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, by the Nile, is witnessing clashes between the two parties, and each party claims that it is extending its control, and that the other party is losing and retreating.

The Rapid Support Forces have controlled the radio and television headquarters since the first day of the war, and are deployed in a number of Omdurman neighborhoods. They have also made several attempts to seize the engineering corps headquarters located south of the city.

The Sudanese army controls the Karari military area, located north of Omdurman, and recently carried out a number of ground operations to expel the Rapid Support Forces from the city and from the radio and television headquarters.

On February 17, the army announced that a force affiliated with it had moved from the Karari military area, and was able to reach the Engineering Corps area, and brought food and military supplies to the forces there, for the first time in 10 months.

Efforts have so far failed to end the ten-month conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Thousands of people have been killed and more than six million forced to flee their homes, with UN agencies saying Sudan now has the largest number of displaced people in the world.
