This Thursday, when questioned about Mayor Luján’s interest in leading the party he founded, the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), the outgoing president said that:
“Well, I am not objective (…) in the case of Luisa (Mayor Luján), I am not objective (…) she organized the youth (…) she has done an extraordinary job as a leader. I invited her to be Secretary of Labor, very well, and Secretary of the Interior, very well. But who is going to say about the militants, the citizens.”

He then said that everyone has the right to participate in the internal process, which he suggested should be done through a survey, and asked that a 2012 commercial be shown, starring the current head of the Interior Ministry, in which they call for people to join the party.
Before it was shown in the morning press conference, he said that “let it be known, because you asked me (…) it is not propaganda.”
On Monday, Mayor Luján “uncovered” his interest in leading the Movement, this, during an interview for a digital channel.

– The truth is that it would be an honor for me to be able to preside over Morena, to be able to work on consolidating the party, to be able to work so that it is a tool that lasts for many years, he responded.
And for this reason, he added, Morena must be protected, above all because of the growth it has experienced in recent years, since:
“It is not only a tool to win elections, but also to promote popular participation, debate, and the revolution of consciences. So we must take great care of Morena.”
-To avoid the ‘perredisation’ or ‘priisation’ as we are seeing with the PRI?, he was asked.
– In order for it to endure as a true tool in favor of the people (…) today Morena has the enormous challenge of not losing its mystique, he replied.

Following this, Senator Citlalli Hernández, who also expressed her interest in leading the cherry party, published yesterday on her X account (@CitlalliHM) that she supported Mayor Luján and therefore, withdrew from the race in these terms:
