The aim of this high-level meeting is to highlight the synergy, complementarity and dynamics between the CND and the CCPCJ on this crucial issue, bearing in mind that many aspects of the links between drug trafficking and other forms of crime are still underexplored, said the Counselor to the Permanent Mission of Morocco in Vienna, Mohamed Amine Boukhris, in his speech on the occasion of the resumed session of the CND and the CCPCJ.
This meeting will be all the more important in the context of the preparation of the outcome document of the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and the ministerial declaration which must be adopted in 2026 and 2029 respectively, said Mr. Boukhris, during this session co-chaired by Morocco.
Furthermore, Morocco welcomed Pakistan’s initiative to present a joint statement on Islamophobia and the promotion of interreligious dialogue, which recalls the resolution A/77/L.89 of the United Nations General Assembly on the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue and tolerance against hate speech, presented by the Kingdom and adopted by consensus on July 25 this year.
The Kingdom also welcomed the successful organization of the three intersessional thematic discussions aimed at ensuring effective follow-up to the Kyoto Declaration through the sharing of information, good practices and lessons learned.
In this context, Mr. Boukhris recalled that Morocco participated actively and constructively in the first thematic discussion, focused on the first pillar of the Kyoto Declaration, on advancing crime prevention, which was held in November 2021, in the second discussion in December 2022, which focused on the second pillar of the Declaration on the criminal justice system, as well as in the third thematic discussion on “promoting the rule of law”, which was held in September 2023.
In addition, the diplomat reiterated Morocco’s “full support” for the United Arab Emirates to host the fifteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2026, considering that the theme of the Congress on protecting people and the planet and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the digital age is relevant and timely.
