Peace is the foundation on which more just and prosperous societies are built. It is also an engine that drives the economic developmentjob creation, social development, knowledge and culture.

This was stated by the State Governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejoopening the Second Ibero-American Meeting “Voices and Journalism for Peace”.

He said that in Guanajuato, we will continue to work as a team to achieve a more peaceful, fair and prosperous society in which everyone has more opportunities for development.

“We would like to thank our allies in this event, the Civil Association Somos Iberoamérica Periodismo por la Paz for this praiseworthy call; and the Latin American Association of Parliamentary Audiovisual Communication.

“In a world that is becoming more divided every day by hatred and social polarization, building a space for peace where dialogue between valuable, congruent and powerful voices prevails is of enormous significance,” said the Governor.

She stressed that these are voices that have much to contribute, such as Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1992, a great friend of Guanajuato; Makasiwe Mandela, daughter of former South African president Nelson Mandela, a great social defender of global causes; and José Ángel Gurría, president of the Paris Peace Forum.

As well as journalists Pablo Latapí, Alberto Peláez, Kasia Widerko, Anabel Hernández and Omar Sánchez de Tagle, among others, he added.

“These are valuable and pertinent voices that I am sure will provide us, in addition to a great message, with inspiration to continue building opportunities for peace from each of our trenches. And the most important thing is that these meetings translate into actions,” he said.

For this reason, he added, Guanajuato has been a meeting point and a vertex of wills and efforts in the construction of the common good. Here, initiatives that promote social values, respect for human rights, sustainability and conditions that favor comprehensive and inclusive development have been supported.

The Governor reiterated that it is a source of pride that Guanajuato will once again host this event, which will be a crucial space for dialogue and international cooperation in the construction of a more just and peaceful world.

“Peace is the foundation on which more just and prosperous societies are built. It is a human right that we must all defend. Peace is also progress,” he said.

He said that the State Government is working as a great team with society to build safe spaces for peace. It is a responsibility that we must all assume.

Young people also have a crucial role in promoting a culture of peace. That is why the “Multipliers of Peace” programme is being promoted, where our youth share their commitment to respect the rights of others, resolve conflicts through dialogue and promote tolerance and inclusion, he stressed.

“Once again: Welcome to the Second Ibero-American Meeting “Voices and Journalism for Peace,” said the Governor.

The Mayor of León, Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos, and the President of Somos Iberoamérica Periodismo por la Paz, Jorge Robledo Vega, participated in this opening ceremony. They also welcomed all attendees to this event, which takes place from July 11 to 23 at the Poliforum León.

The goal is to discuss crucial issues and foster collaboration between journalists and global leaders in promoting peace. And it is a unique opportunity to strengthen the commitment to peace and social justice, said Jorge Robledo.

He added that the event will be broadcast live on Tv4 and will feature the participation of Public Radio and Television systems affiliated with RED MÉXICO, which will have channels throughout the country and other nations.

In addition, the collaboration of more than 40 parliamentary channels in Latin America, members of the Latin American Association of Parliamentary Audiovisual Communication (ALCAP), is contemplated.
